During his address at the 62nd Madaraka Day celebrations, His Excellency President William Ruto outlined the government’s major milestones in transforming Kenya’s education sector. He emphasized the following achievements.
He highlighted the ongoing shift to the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), which focuses on skills development and practical learning rather than rote memorization, ensuring learners are prepared for the modern job market.
The President noted that his administration has employed 76,000 new teachers in the last two years, marking the largest teacher recruitment since independence.
He further announced plans to hire an additional 24,000 teachers by January 2026 to address staffing gaps. To employ 100,000 by next year.
He underscored the government’s efforts in constructing over 23,000 new classrooms, significantly reducing congestion and improving the learning environment.
President Ruto emphasized the rapid growth in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) enrollment, which is projected to rise from 500,000 in 2023 to 2 million by the end of 2025.
He stated that this expansion is critical in equipping the youth with technical skills to drive industrialization and innovation.
