**School Children Vanish in West Pokot Amid Suspected Cannibalism Claims** Residents of Bendera village in West Pokot were left in shock after school-going children mysteriously disappeared, with suspicions pointing to acts of cannibalism. Angry locals barricaded the Lodwar-Kapenguria highway, demanding justice for the victims. Thousands gathered in protest, prompting police to use teargas to disperse the crowd. Residents attacked and burned properties belonging to suspects allegedly involved in abducting and murdering children. County Criminal Investigation Officer Daniel Musangi confirmed that suspects admitted to killing and consuming eight boys, though human remains have yet to be found. He noted that the destruction of evidence hindered investigations. Authorities plan to excavate a toilet suspected of containing human remains. Protected sources revealed that twelve suspects confessed to abducting, torturing, and consuming human flesh over several years. Police identified the suspects as Ugandan nationals from the Abagishu community in Bududa, Uganda. The discovery of school uniforms and learning materials deepened suspicions that victims were students ambushed on their way to or from school. Attempts by officials to calm tensions failed as residents clashed with police. Musangi confirmed suspects are in custody, though the prime suspect fled to Uganda. A grieving mother, Elizabeth Cheptana, identified her missing son’s clothing after 16 years. Reports suggest rituals involving snakes and trade in body parts, with a preference for kidneys and hearts. Victims’ children admitted their family consumed human flesh, describing eerie experiences with dismembered remains. The Kenya National Union of Teachers condemned the atrocities, urging swift action against perpetrators. Authorities continue investigating as the community grapples with the horrifying revelations.
